When I was in high school here in Spokane, the radio station we all listened to was 105.7 the Peak. Ok, some of us may have switched over to ZZU on occasion if we needed a little Usher or Blackstreet in our lives. No diggity. No doubt. But for the most part my alternative rock fix was met by The Peak.
Then- the dreaded format change. It became another cookie cutter classic rock station and I promptly switched all of my radio presets to NPR. Other than The Peak- Spokane radio sucked.
BUT NOW THE PEAK IS BACK! And I couldn’t be happier. It’s only been back a week, but oh, what a week it’s been. Here are some of the songs I’ve heard just today: (yes, I wrote them down. I just couldn’t believe my lucky little ears!)
- Pearl Jam – Crazy Mary
- Better Than Ezra – Good
- Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta
- Frank Black – Los Angeles
- Weezer – some new song- don’t know the name
- Soul Coughing – Circles
- Veruca Salt – Leave Me Laying Here
- Seven Mary Three – Cumbersome
- Sponge – Plowed
- Silverchair!! – Tomorrow
- Oasis – Live Forever
- Screaming Trees – Nearly Lost You
- Death Cab – I Will Possess Your Heart
- Alice in Chains – Them Bones
- Foo Fighters – Long Road to Ruin
- Modest Mouse – Float On

I feel like I am in the 90’s again. It’s a wonderful feeling.

the 90’s indeed. Actually, most of those songs came from their 90’s at Noon segment. But I’ll still take ‘em. Today we got the Toadies! I mean, come on, when was the last time you heard The Toadies on the radio?!

I listened to it in high school and was a DJ there for about a year, right before they switched formats. I am very excite that the peak is back on the air.

Yeah, it sure takes you back to the good old days of unadulterated alternative rock. The Peak was the soundtrack of my youth and when they switched over it was so lame. Radio in Spokane was just not the same after that. Now that they’re back, it resurrected the best music era that exists.
The greatest songs on radio period!
